Riverside Park Community Service

We are such do gooders!
The ward was doing service project in Riverside Park in the morning, so Janice and I pitched in doing the heavy weeding.  We were the only girls that started helping with the heavy helping.  Most were doing meticulous weeding or painting.

We had to clear all of the small trees so that people in the park can have a view of the Hudson river and Jersey.

Poision ivy there was lots and lots.  We didn't stand a chance.  It is actually quite pretty and I wouldn't have guessed this is what it looks like.

Boys they just can't do the little stuff they have to take over and do the big stuff.

Riverside Park only has four gardeners for over 200 acres that stretches along four miles 72nd to 158th streets along the Hudson River. The park relies on volunteers to help keep up with the park.  It was really fun and I loved getting down and dirty and taking down the trees.

Bad part....poision ivy.  One of the gardeners told us to use the soap when we got home to make help in case we got rashes.  I had a little rash on my leg, but I used the soap and was able to make it go away. hopefully nothing else will pop up because my legs and hands are already banged up from pulling the trees out.  They need a little break.

Boat Ride - Zephyr

 Brooklyn Bridge

I got a Groupon a long time ago that I seriously forgot about, but for some reason remembered that I had.  I thought I might as well use it before I forget I had it again.  My friend Laura and I made a trip downtown to to wait at the pier for our boat to come. I didn't really have any expectations and that is the best way I have decided to go into things. I end up really enjoying myself!

This was our quite large and nice boat that we got to enjoy ourselves on.  The best part was our tour guide he was very interesting to listen to and had a lot of facts about the little that I knew and some that I didn't, so that was fun to listen to while I enjoyed a nice relaxing boat ride.

Enjoying the breeze on another humid day.  Thankfully the sun didn't make its appearance until we had departed the boat or we would have baked. Poor tourists I don't know how they do it.

STUNNING! I am in love with this picture.  I work in the building with the orange square in the middle of the building on the left side that is facing Battery Park.

Hello almost tallest building!!!! You are looking gorgeous.  I think they are putting all the glass so when all the building are up they can look at each other and admire how gorgeous they are :)

I love the large clock on the left even though it looks quite small compared to the building.

This beauty was built in 1889 and was a railroad terminal.  Over 10 million immigrants came through here to enter our country.  I love the architecture.  Our conductor believes it looks Canadian and there isn't anything like this somewhere else in Manhattan, so he considers it very unique.

I really enjoyed Ellis Island when I saw it.  I need to go again because the last time I was there was almost three years ago.  I am certainly not going in the Summer though!  I see the lines every morning to get on the ferry....they are insanely long.  You either get there early or don't waste your time with it because you will literally be waiting for hours to get on.

It has been awhile since I have been this close to it to the SOL.  I work near Battery Park, so I see it everyday from afar.  I don't appreciate sometimes how cool this lady is and what a feat it was to get her here.  The first time I saw it I was surprised about how small it was and I guess I haven't really gotten over that until now.  She is so lovely.

The Statue of Liberty and I.  We are both matching and wearing green!

I LOVE NYC!!!!!!

Coney Island

Last weekend I went to Coney Island in Brooklyn.  This is the first time I have been here and I have almost lived here for three years! I have been missing out and will have to go again when it isn't as hot.

I wonder where the name Luna came from it seems kind of random.

The Cyclone turned 85 years old while we were there.  This ride is old and rickety.  It is amazing I survived the ride (seriously).  The White Roller Coaster at Lagoon has nothing on this ride.

The cost of admission was 25 cents all those years ago.  To celebrate you could ride the roller coaster for that affordable price of 25 cents while we were there instead of the inflated price of $8.  Which is how much it costs now, yes you read that right $8 for a ride that lasts a minute.

Steve did a lovely drawing for the Cyclone's card.

Waiting in line to get on the Cyclone!!
Enjoying the lovely signs while waiting in line for the ride.  Good cheap entertainment.

 A picture of a picture.

I want a birthday cake this big for my birthday and have some lifeguards jump out of it!!!! Yea, I like that idea.
I am up there!!! This ride is awesome and so much better than the swing ride at Lagoon.

Coming down from our lovely swing ride.  The breeze was the best part.

THE WONDER WHEEL at the affordable price of $6 a ride...

Getting excited to go on the Ferris Wheel.

Our cage.

The lovely views from our cage.

By the Wonder Wheel there was an awesome arcade that we played at for awhile.  So much fun and reminded me a Nickel Cade sadly these games weren't a Nickel.  Steve and I raced cars and he only beat me barely.  I am little rusty and my driving skills were horrible.  I left a lot of destruction in my path.

Nikki hit the jackpot!
After the arcade we headed over to busy Nathan's to get a hot dog (I got a corn dog) and then we headed to the beach!

I love this picture!  Enjoying the nice HOT beach.

Last, but certainly not least.  The reason people go to the beach, well the reason I go to the beach.  To enjoy the view :)
